The 107th was in the advance of the brigade
and when the brave Gen. Duryea rode up and
ordered us to charge on the enemy every arm
was reserved for the enemy as was
manifested by a spontaneous burst of
applause along and through the lines. The
result I feared no longer and at once gave the
order to my men to make the charge with
fixed bayonets. And such a charge! They
drove the enemy to the summit of the
mountain....

It did not end the war, nor did it attain any major war
aim for the North or the South--it remains the great
battle of the war.
On the 12th of June the 107th Pennsylvania
began their march toward Gettysburg. They reached
the field on the morning of July 1 and Thomson moved
his troops toward position at Seminary Ridge. They
