Descended from the children of the mist,
Son of the Scottish Highlands,
Bearing within himself
the legacy of the Covenanters—
Idealistic, altruistic, scholastic—
This tall, lean, black-eyed Union warrior
Inspired loyalty from his troops
And fear in the hearts of the enemies on the field.
Mac's war began in Charleston, South Carolina.
It was in Charleston that, having abandoned
the study of law, Mac found the occupation that would
become his life-long calling—teaching the young. That
aside, he definitely was in the wrong place at the
wrong time when a group of Southern radicals fired on
Fort Sumter and the Civil War was on!
