Mac's war began in Charleston, South Carolina.  

It was in Charleston that, having abandoned 

the study of law, Mac found the occupation that would 
become his life-long calling—teaching the young.  That 
aside, he definitely was in the wrong place at the 
wrong time when a group of Southern radicals fired on 
Fort Sumter and the Civil War was on!
