July 4, 1776, the American colonies declared political
independence from England. Given the decades of civil war
waged against England by the Scotch and the personal family
toll on the Thomson clan, it is not surprising that Alexander
and Elizabeth fully supported the rebellion and their older
sons were found right at the front of this new war against
England. The graves of both Alexander and Elizabeth have
DAR markers that read Patriots of the American Revolution.
