Governor Fendall was charged with treason,
his lands were temporarily confiscated, he was
imprisoned and fined 50 pounds sterling.
The manor lands of Thomas Gerard were
temporarily seized but when he applied to the
Maryland Council for pardon, it was promptly granted
and his lands returned. Undoubtedly the status of his
wife and her political connections were a strong
influence.
Dr. Gerard was permanently barred from
voting or holding public office. He was required to pay
100 pounds sterling and 5000 pounds of tobacco and
post 10,000 pounds of tobacco as collateral for good
behavior. The intensity of the punishment imposed
signals that Dr. Gerard was the leader of this rebellion.
Of the consequences to the other accused
traitors, there is no record.
